The Ataxia Advisory Committee for Therapeutics (Ataxia-ACT) will have its first review meeting on 11 and 12 November in London, UK (previous to the ICAR 2024).

The Ataxia-ACT is one of AGI’s trial readiness services. Its main objective is to review and provide objective advice on the planning and execution of preclinical and clinical drug development programs for (all forms of) ataxias.

The Ataxia-ACT is a valuable resource and service to you. We provide an expert advice to optimize research, by either a) steering studies along a realistic and well-informed plan to clinical trial/later phase clinical activity or b) encouraging a change of direction or approach, to avoid failure further down the line.

Official Condolences on Passing of

Professor Bing-wen Soong

The AGI leadership mourns the passing of Professor Bing-wen Soong, who was a most appreciated and valued Steering Committee member of our organization – Ataxia Global Initiative (AGI). His loss is deeply felt within the entire global neurology community, where his contributions have left an enduring legacy.
Professor Soong was a luminary in the field of neurology, his pioneering work in the study of cerebellar disorders, particularly Ataxia, revolutionized our understanding of these debilitating conditions. His dedication to advancing the knowledge and treatment of cerebellar disorders was evident in his groundbreaking research articles in eminent journals, such as Cerebellum, Cell Report, Journal of Clinical Investigation, American Journal of Human Genetics, Annals of Neurology, Brain, Neurology, JAMA Neurology, and NeuroImage. His insights have guided the field and inspired countless researchers and clinicians worldwide.
Professor Soong served on the AGI Steering Committee since its foundation in 2021. The AGI community is devasted of the loss of their highly regarded Steering Committee member and his unique and eminent expertise and his valued leadership of our organization. His innovative approaches to diagnosis and treatment have not only improved patient outcomes but have also paved the way for future breakthroughs in neurology. His impact on the lives of patients and families affected by Ataxia cannot be overstated.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Professor Soong was revered for his humility, integrity, and unwavering commitment to excellence. He was a mentor and a friend to many, always generous with his time and knowledge, and his absence will be keenly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

ICAR 2024 - Registration and Abstract Submission

🖊 There are three weeks left until abstract submissions close for ICAR 2024! Please note that is also the deadline for bursary applications. Use the instructions below to submit your abstract for consideration.

Abstract Submission Instructions

To submit an abstract click the button below. You will be prompted to create a login for the conference abstract submission software Ex Ordo. Abstracts can be submitted under the following topics:
  • Advances in genetics and diagnostics
  • Cerebellar neurodevelopment and cognitive disorders
  • Emerging and existing therapeutics – pre-clinical research
  • Emerging and existing therapeutics – clinical research
  • Disease mechanisms
  • Cerebellar circuits and function
  • Cellular and animal models
  • Biomarkers and clinical outcomes
  • Imaging

Abstract Format
  • Abstract title should be a maximum of 150 characters (including spaces)
  • All authors must be listed, and one author noted as the presenting author.
  • Each author’s title and institution should be noted
  • Abstract text must be limited to 300 words and should include the following paragraphs: Methods, Results Discussion, and Conclusion
